Who was Alfred Hutton?
Hutton was a British officer of the so-called King’s Dragoon Guards, a writer, but most of all - a swordsman. Together with a group of friends he reborned the interest in historical martial arts in the 19th-20th century period.
Alfred Hutton practiced fencing from an early age. After finishing school, he focused on training with relatively new arms in that time, like saber, and studying historical treatises. In 1889 he published his first book on the subject (about military saber). Hutton was also known for correcting the fencing techniques on the stage of theater.
After his death, the literature about fencing collected by Hutton was donated to Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
